STRONG SUSTAINABILITY GAINS FOR THE IFSC IN 2024

The Federation continued its sustainability journey with a major reduction in emissions reported to UN Sport for Climate Action.

The IFSC has recorded a 23% reduction in its carbon footprint for the 2024 solar year compared to 2023. The assessment, conducted as part of the Federation’s annual report to the UN Sport for Climate Action (S4CA) initiative, highlights tangible progress in reducing environmental impact.

This achievement, driven by the adoption of the IFSC Sustainability Guidelines, have helped the organisation limit emissions across travel, logistics, and daily operations. The results underline the importance of coordinated efforts within the organisation, and the effectiveness of consistent, data-driven practices.

CONTINUED COLLABORATION FOR FUTURE IMPACT

The results have been shared with S4CA, reinforcing the IFSC’s ongoing collaboration under the framework of the recently established Sustainability Commission. The Federation aims to use these findings as a foundation for future sustainability initiatives, particularly across the IFSC World Cup Series.

In partnership with long-time partner EP, the IFSC is developing a calculation tool designed to evaluate the environmental footprint of event infrastructure, including climbing walls, stages, and holds. This innovation will provide Local Organising Committees with a clear and consistent method for assessing and reducing event-related emissions.
