Paralympic Games LA28

The 18th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, California, USA, from 15 to 27 August 2028, marking the city's first time as the host of the Paralympics.

Back in January 2023, the IPC made it official that following a record number of applications to be considered for inclusion in the Paralympic Games, LA28 was granted the opportunity to explore the potential of including Para Climbing or Para Surfing. Fifteen months later, the Organinsing Committee of the Paralympic Games LA28 proposed to add Para Climbing to the sport programme of the Paralympic, a proposal that was finally ratified on 26 June 2024 by the IPC.

As confirmed by the IPC on 3 June 2025, the Para Climbing programme at LA28 will welcome a total of 80 athletes – 40 men and 40 women – competing in eight medal events:

  • Visually impaired: women’s B2 and men’s B1
  • Upper limb deficiency: women’s and men’s AU2
  • Lower limb deficiency: women’s and men’s AL2
  • Range and power: women’s and men’s RP1

THE VENUE

On 3 June 2025, the Organising Committee of the Paralympic Games LA28 announced that Para Climbing competitions at the Paralympics will be held at the Long Beach Climbing Theater, in the Long Beach Sports Park. The venue, located along the Southern California coastline, will also host Climbing at the Olympic Games earlier that Summer, providing a consistent and iconic setting for both Climbing and Para Climbing competitions.
