Sport Equipment
BOULDER AND LEAD
Launched in May 2018, the IFSC Official Sport Equipment Catalogue is an initiative designed to ensure fairness and consistency across all IFSC events. Only products listed in the Catalogue are permitted in the Field of Play at IFSC competitions, providing a level playing field and a uniformed experience for all stakeholders, including athletes, LOCs, national federations, officials, and routesetters.
2025 EDITION: STRUCTURE AND CATEGORIES
The latest edition of the IFSC Official Sport Equipment Catalogue introduced a structured, multi-tiered approach to the selection of authorised holds. Published in 2025, the new catalogue lists the only approved brands allowed in the Field of Play of IFSC international events. Designed to provide stability across the climbing ecosystem, the catalogue will remain valid for a standard period of two years.
Brands are now classified into three categories—Platinum, Gold, and Silver—based on the quality of their materials, the diversity of their product ranges, and the suitability of their shapes for elite-level competition. This tiered system ensures that the equipment used at the highest level continues to evolve with the sport, while maintaining clear standards of excellence. The full regulation and detailed list of authorised brands are available through the IFSC Catalogue of Holds.
PARIS 2024: OLYMPIC STANDARDS FOR EQUIPMENT
Ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the IFSC published the P24 Online Catalogue to define the specific equipment authorised for use in the Games and the Olympic Qualifier Series Shanghai 2024. A separate S24 Catalogue was also released for the Olympic Qualifier Series Budapest 2024. Both ensured consistent quality and fairness in competition by listing selected holds, macros, and volumes from approved manufacturers.
TOKYO 2020: FOUNDATIONS OF UNIFORMITY
The T20 Catalogue was the first Olympic-specific document, released in 2019 in preparation for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. It marked the beginning of a standardised approach to climbing equipment at the Olympic level and laid the foundation for future editions.
