COLOMBIA HOSTS ITS FIRST HIGH-LEVEL ROUTESETTING CLINIC

Colombian routesetters and athletes gain international-level training ahead of Pan American Cup.

Climbing in Colombia reached a new milestone with the country’s first high-level routesetting clinic, led by IFSC Level 2 Routesetter João Evora. The event brought together six Colombian routesetters preparing for the upcoming Pan American Cup in Armenia, Colombia.

The clinic was organised by the Colombian Climbing Federation with support from the IFSC and the Colombian Ministry of Sport, and combined expert routesetting guidance with athlete training sessions on competition-level boulders and routes. This dual approach allowed routesetters to apply best practices while athletes tested and refined their skills on Pan American-standards.

Under João Evora’s guidance, routesetters received targeted instruction and feedback, while athletes benefited from routes designed and adjusted in real time. The collaborative format created a two-way learning experience, elevating the standards of both routesetting and athlete preparation.

"Education is the foundation for the development of climbing worldwide," said Lizette Manrique, President of the Colombian Climbing Federation. "This clinic represents a key step forward for our athletes and routesetters as they reach international competition standards."

The clinic marked a significant milestone in Colombia’s Climbing development, strengthening the country’s presence in the Pan American and international Climbing community.
