Staff from the IFSC Sport department were in Los Angeles for the first in-person meeting between the International Federation and the LA28 Organising Committee in the Californian city.
IFSC Sport and Events Director Vincent Caussé and IFSC Sport Operations Manager Hae Sol Han visited what will become the "Long Beach Climbing Theater" during the Games period and will welcome fans from around the world to watch the sport during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Caussé and Han were joined by IFSC Vice-President Anne-Worley Moelter during the site visit, part of an important milestone in the IFSC’s Olympic journey to Los Angeles 2028 which included meetings with key staff from the LA28 LOC.
The site visit to the future venue focused on reviewing the field of play layout and associated infrastructure planning with additional meetings which covered a wide range of topics that show the immense work that goes into delivering an Olympic and Paralympic sport.
Staff from the LA28 LOC included Senior Sport Group Manager Rodrigo Rangel and Sport Manager Karalyn Aronow who were joined by managers and colleagues to talk through topics such as sport operations planning, sport equipment, ticketing, hospitality, transportation, technology, sport presentation, broadcasting operations, and sport initiation.
Caussé and Han also attended dinner with LA28 Vice President of Sports Niccolo Campriani during their 19-21 November visit, while Vice-President Moelter met Campriani in an additional one-to-one meeting at the LA28 headquarters.
Speaking of the visit Caussé said: “The excitement for what I’m sure will be a magical experience at LA28 was evident on our first in-person meeting with the ever-growing staff in Los Angeles.
“It’s a new place with new challenges, but there was a shared enthusiasm and professionalism as we move ahead for not only the Olympic Games, but also Climbing’s first appearance in a Paralympic Games.
“On behalf of the IFSC I would like to extend a warm thank you to Karalyn, Rodrigo, Niccolo and all the experts we met during those friendly and fruitful three days. The future is looking very bright."
