NEW RELAY FORMAT TESTED AT INTERNATIONAL SPEED MASTER MEISHAN 2025

The event showcased a full range of four-lane formats ahead of the Speed Series 2026.

The International Speed Master Meishan 2025 concluded in Sichuan Province, China, marking an important milestone in the ongoing development of Speed Climbing and the introduction of new team-based formats.

Held from 23 to 25 October at the Meishan International Climbing Center, the event was organised by the Chinese Mountaineering Association under the guidance of the IFSC. More than 40 athletes from eight countries – including China, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and Thailand – competed across five events: men’s and women’s Speed, men’s and women’s Speed relays, and mixed Speed relay.

The competition featured athletes from six nations on the podium, with gold medals shared among China, Italy, Japan, and South Korea.

MIXED TEAM FORMAT MAKES INTERNATIONAL DEBUT

A highlight of the event was the debut of the Mixed Team Speed Relay — the first time the format was featured at an international competition following successful trials in national events. The new format provided valuable insights for the continued evolution of team Speed Climbing and will inform the development of Speed Relay events set to debut in the IFSC World Cup circuit in 2026.

Alongside the competition, IFSC Officials, representatives, and National Federations held meetings to refine the rules and structure of the upcoming Speed four-lane formats, including team composition, regulations, and scoring systems.

Hosted at one of the world’s largest Climbing facilities, the Meishan International Climbing Center, the International Speed Master Meishan 2025 served as both a testing ground and a celebration of Speed Climbing’s growth on the global stage, paving the way for new and dynamic competitions in the seasons ahead.
