The winner of the Boulder World Cup title in 2023 nailed a perfect semi-final round, and was joined by teammates Narasaki Meichi, Kayotani, and Amagasa in the top six.
Team Japan’s domination of the men’s Boulder scene continued at the Kletterzentrum in Innsbruck, Austria, where the fourth World Cup event of the season is currently in action.
After securing the gold-silver combo at the two previous Boulder competitions in 2024 – with Narasaki Tomoa and Anraku Sorato in Keqiao, China; and with the same Sorato and Tomoa’s brother Meichi in Salt Lake City, USA – in Innsbruck, the Japanese national teams moved four climbers into the men’s final, positioning themselves to increase their medal tally.
Anraku took first place with four tops and four zones, Narasaki Meichi took third with two and four, Kayotani Ritsu finished fifth with one top and four zones, while Amagasa Sohta placed sixth with the same score. Worst case scenario, they will have one climber on the podium.
The two remaining slots were taken by future Paris 2024 competitor Toby Roberts of Great Britain – second with two tops and four zones – and first-time semi-final participant Elias Arriagada Krüger of Germany, who scored one and four.
"I am over the moon. It's nothing I would have expected, but after training for it for so so many years, it finally happened. I trained a lot with the other strong guys, Yannick [Flohé], Alex [Megos], Jakob [Schubert], now I'm glad and extremely thankful that I made it,” said the German 23-year-old.
