OLD AND NEW FACES MAKE TOP SIX AT THE END OF HARD WOMEN’S SEMI-FINAL ROUND

Garnbret, Pilz, Buckley, Sanders, all among finalists in the women’s Boulder event in Innsbruck.

Day two at the IFSC World Cup Innsbruck 2024 opened with the semi-final round of the women’s Boulder event, then awarding its set of medals in the highly anticipated final taking place tonight at 19:00 (UTC+2:00).

The top six climbers that earned a spot in the final are led by the reigning Olympic and World champion Janja Garnbret of Slovenia, who certified the hardness of the four boulders by taking first place with only two tops and three zones.

The Slovenian star was joined in the top six by a couple of experienced climbers – Tokyo 2020 Olympian Jessica Pilz of Austria, and six-time World Cup medallist Fanny Gibert of France.

“I don’t know, it’s just crazy! I came back from so far. It’s been hard to keep believing in it. I like when the rounds are difficult, because they give you the chance to show your real abilities in one style, and your mental ability to stay focused until the end, never give up. That is my best skill, I guess. The aim for the final is to keep the same spirit, climb at my best, just like I did in qualification and semi-final,” said the French.

Also advancing to the women’s Boulder final were 17-year-old Jennifer Eucharia Buckley, also of Slovenia, 16-year-old Annie Sanders of the USA, and 24-year-old Nakamura Mao of Japan. It will be the first participation in a World Cup final round for both Buckley and Sanders.
