A fruitful meeting among Marco Scolaris and Argentinean NOC and Federation
IFSC President Marco Scolaris was welcomed on 19 May at the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) headquarters by COA President Mario Moccia, Secretary General Víctor Sergio Groupierre, President of the Argentine Federation of Ski and Mountaineering (FASA) and COA advisor Magdalena Kast, and FASA Sport Climbing Commission member Agustin Sisamon, to promote the future of Sport Climbing in the region.
During the meeting, they discussed, among other topics, the inclusion of the sport in the Santa Fe South American Games 2026, and the creation of a South American hub at the Olympic Park. Soon construction works will start there to build the three walls of the climbing arena in a dedicated area. The meeting focussed on the possibility of creating this facility not only as a site for events of all levels, but also an hub for teams and athletes, for both training and education, to service the entire continent.
President Scolaris commented: “It was a pleasure to meet Mario Moccia, president of the COA (Argentina Olympic Committee): since many years a good friend and supportive to our sport since many years. We discussed the development of the project at the Parque Olìmpico and its future. We also considered the best way to organize the climbing event in occasion of the 2026 South American Games, in Rosario-Santa Fe, that will also serve as qualifiers to the Pan American Games”.
The authorities agreed that a specific action plan is needed to ensure that the sport continues to grow ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics.
