Deals have been secured in Brazil, China, Indonesia and Mexico for the IFSC World Cup 2025 series.
The IFSC has signed new broadcast deals to help bring the sport and the athletes into the homes of more people around the world.
Following on from the extension of the Warner Bros. Discovery deal covering Europe announced earlier this month, the IFSC has signed deals with TV Azteca, TV Globo and China Central Television (CCTV) for the 2025 season, and with Indonesian channels Emtek and Narasi for the IFSC World Cup Bali.
TV Azteca in Mexico and Globo TV in Brazil secured the rights to broadcast the finals from all the IFSC World Cup events in 2025 while CCTV in China secured rights to the IFSC Speed World Cup Series.
Both TV Azteca and Globo TV have free-to-air channels with TV Azteca also having its free own streaming service. Due to the deals, both channels will gain rights to the finals and therefore the IFSC YouTube will be geo-blocked in those regions for the final rounds.
As China’s national television broadcaster, CCTV secured exclusive TV and digital rights for Chinese mainland and non-exclusive TV rights for Macau for all of the Speed discipline World Cups throughout the season.
With Indonesia back on the IFSC World Cup circuit, the interest in climbing in the country has exploded after Veddriq Leonardo took gold at Paris 2024, and both Emtek and Narasi have signed deals to broadcast the upcoming World Cup.
IFSC President Marco Scolaris said: “The appetite for climbing has continued to grow and taking the sport into people’s homes around the world helps to show and develop our sport even more. These new TV partnerships prove that people all around the globe want to climb with us. It is just the beginning of a new adventure.”
Bali will host both Lead and Speed competitions over three days this coming weekend – 2-4 May – where the nation’s top Speed climbers will vie for gold against climbers like world record holders Aleksandra Miroslaw of Poland and Sam Watson of USA.
