France, Japan, and the USA claim final spots at the IFSC Climbing World Cup Curitiba 2025.
The women’s Boulder semi-final of the IFSC Climbing World Cup Curitiba 2025 took place today, 17 May, in front of a loud and engaged crowd. Eight athletes secured a spot in this evening’s final, with the last problem proving decisive.
SEKIKAWA SETS THE PACE
Japan’s Sekikawa Melody secured the top position with 84.4 points, leading the pack thanks to tops on boulders two, three, and four—including a flash on the final one. Her consistency across the round placed her clearly ahead of the rest of the field.
Italy’s Camilla Moroni followed in second with 69.7 points. She topped boulders two and four, flashing the last problem in style to strengthen her final score.
Naïlé Meignan of France claimed third with 69.5 points, just behind Moroni, matching her number of tops with successful attempts on boulders three and four. She too flashed M4, which proved to be a decisive problem in the round.
TOP EIGHT CONFIRMED
Tight margins defined the rest of the top eight. Matsufuji Anon of Japan placed fourth with 69.5 points, just 0.2 points behind Meignan. She was followed closely by Ito Futaba of Japan in fifth with 69.4 and Oriane Bertone of France in sixth with 69.3. Nakamura Mao of Japan reached the final in seventh place with 68.8.
Rounding out the top eight was Nekaia Sanders of the USA with 44.6 points. Sanders delivered a unique performance, as the only climber to top boulder number one and one of the seven athletes to top the final boulder. All athletes who topped M4 qualified for the final.
“This is my first ever semi at my fourth World Cup. I’m kind of mind blown right now," said the US climber.
"Honestly, this is only the second time I’ve ever cried in iso. It was such a hard round and I had so much fun on the boulders and I’m clearly very excited.
"None. None at all. I’m just so, so happy to be there. I’m still trying not to cry again!” said Sanders when asked about her expectations for the final.
