Speed talents shined in the Polish city, with Italy taking gold in the two women’s event.
Alongside the IFSC European Cup in Zakopane, Poland, this year’s seventh Youth European Cup saw 90 climbers from 12 nations – including one from Australia – compete in two age categories: U17 and U19.
ITALIAN GOLDEN GIRLS SHINE AGAIN
Both women’s event were won by Italian climbers, with Alice Marcelli prevailing in the women’s U17 Speed, and Sara Strocchi taking gold in the women’s U19 final. Both Marcelli and Strocchi had previously won gold at the Youth European Cup in Mezzolombardo, Italy.
FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND TAKE U19 WINS
France’s Léo Grosset placed first in the men’s U17 event – also matching his result in Mezzolombardo – beating Italy’s Giorgio Villa in the race for gold, while Gilles Meili of Switzerland climbed atop the podium for the very first time in his young career, taking gold in the men’s U19 Speed event.
