The men’s Boulder qualification round unfolded at the USA Climbing Training Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, with 62 athletes split into two groups and facing five boulder each.

GROUP A AND GROUP B STANDOUTS

Japan’s Narasaki Meichi topped group A with 124.2 points, completing four boulders and including two flashes. Joining him in first position in the overall rankings was his teammate Fujiwaki Yuji, who won group B with a score of 124.8 points thanks to four flashes. Close behind Narasaki and Fujiwaki in the combined standings were Anraku Sorato of Japan – fresh off back-to-back Boulder golds in Keqiao, China, and Curitiba, Brazil – and Maximillian Milne of Great Britain. Anraku posted 109.9 points, Milne just 0.1 points less, both securing second in their respective groups and third overall.

SEMI-FINAL FIELD CONFIRMED

A wide range of talent advanced to the next round, including young hopefuls such as Thomas Lemagner of France – fifth with 94.5 points – and seasoned veterans – like Slovenia's Anze Peharc, seventh with 93.9.

Among those making it through was 120-year-old Ardch Intrachupongse of Thailand, who finished 17th overall with 84.4 points and three tops.

"Qualification was great, the climbs were quite difficult, but they were a lot of fun. There were a lot of very unique movements, like on the number three. It was a great round," said the Thai.

"You know, I'm very excited about this comp, the crowd looks great. There's a lot of people, the turnout is great. It's time to rest up, save my skin a little bit, and then fight on Sunday! I'm excited for it, the boulders are beautiful."
