SPEED CLIMBING TO STAR AS MAIN PROTAGONIST AT THE WORLD GAMES CHENGDU 2025

The International World Games Association (IWGA) has celebrated the 600-days-to-go to the next edition of The World Games – set to take place in Chengdu, China, from 7 to 17 August 2025 – by announcing the official sports programme of the event.

A record-setting numbers of athletes is expected to participate in the 12th edition of the multi-sport festival, with a total of 264 medal events – also an all-time high – scheduled to take place during the 11-day competition programme.

Having debuted at the seventh edition of The World Games in Duisburg, Germany, Sport Climbing is expected to make its sixth consecutive appearance at the event, with one specific discipline set to be main protagonist.

Indeed, for the first time since 2007, neither Boulder of Lead will be featured in the programme, and Speed will take over the show with a total of six medal events: men’s and women’s Speed; men’s and women’s 4-lane Speed, making its all-time debut at an international event; and men’s and women’s Speed Relay, making its first appearance outside of the Asian Games.
