Japan places five climbers in the top eight as final line-up is set in Salt Lake City.
Japan’s Anraku Sorato led the way in the men’s Boulder semi-final in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, finishing first with 84.3 points and three tops on M2, M3, and M4. The reigning back-to-back gold medallist continued his perfect season confidently advanced to another World Cup final round.
Just behind Anraku, Lee Dohyun of South Korea placed second with 74.5 points, also topping M2, M3, and M4.
The South Korean climber said: “Semi-final was not easy for me, because every boulder had some physical move, especially the first one was very hard for me. But I did my best, and I’m very satisfied with myself.”
JAPANESE DOMINANCE
France’s Mejdi Schalck returned to the final round after a strong performance, claiming third place with 69.2 points. The Japanese team continued its dominance with four more climbers reaching the final: Fujiwaki Yuji in fourth, Amagasa Sohta in fifth, Sugimoto Rei in sixth, and Narasaki Meichi in seventh. Colin Duffy of the USA rounded out the final eight in eighth position.
"This will be my first final in seven years, so I'm very happy. And this season is the last World Cup season of my athlete career, so I want to enjoy the atmosphere of the final. Climbing for Team Japan is very motivating for me, there are so many strong climbers," said 33-year-old Sugimoto.
