Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028
Sport Climbing, for its third summer Games appearance, will be a sport in the Olympic Programme at Olympic Games LA28. At the same time, Para Climbing will make its Paralympic debut.
In fact, Para Climbing was proposed for inclusion in the Paralympics program by the LA28 organizing committee (news) and confirmed on June 26, 2024 by the IPC (news).
After entering as an additional sport at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and being confirmed at Paris 2024, Sport Climbing is entering as a Programme Sport in the Olympic Games on the US soil, which will be the most populated ever by climbers thanks to the first double participation in the Games.
For the first time ever, there will be three sets of medals for both men’s and women’s climbers up for grabs at LA28 with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announcing on April 2025 an increase in medals and athlete quota for Sport Climbing.
The IOC Executive Board has approved six events for men's and women's Lead, Speed, and Boulder climbing, with a total quota of 76 athletes (38 women and 38 men). The specific allocation of these quota places across the events will be finalised in the Olympic Qualification System, including the potential for athletes to compete in multiple events.
A bit of climbing in LA logo
Nathaniel Coleman, the first overall Olympic men's silver medalist in the history of our sport, is among the first Creators who came up with a peculiar design of the "A" of LA28, in the constantly changing logo, promoted by the organisers to symbolise the diversity of a multifaceted city.
