The home team dominated the medal table with two golds, one silver, and one bronze.
This year’s seventh IFSC European Cup—the first one in Lead— took place on the weekend of Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July, in Casalecchio di Reno, Italy, just outside of Bologna. The event saw the participation of 228 athletes, perfectly split between women and men, and representing 27 nations, including South Africa.
ITALY TAKES FOUR MEDALS
The home Italian team ended up on three of the four podiums, finishing with one gold, two silvers, and one bronze. Gianluca Vighetti won the men’s U19 Lead event, while France’s Louise Puech Yazid placed first in the women’s final of the same age category.
In the women’s U17 event, Serbia’s 14-year-old Milena Casetta won her first-ever international medal—a gold! Austria’s Adrian Kathan ruled the men’s U17 final.

The event in Bologna concluded the Youth European Lead Cup circuit, with under 17 and under 19 climbers now focusing on the IFSC Youth World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, taking place from 28 July to 3 August.
A Speed double-header is next on the European calendar, with a Youth European Cup and a European Cup both scheduled in St. Pölten, Austria, on 16 and 17 August, respectively.
