HIGHAMS' HIGHLIGHTS: IFSC WORLD CUP JAKARTA 2023
Throughout the 2023 season, the IFSC will bring some interesting facts and figures ahead of our events, in association with statistician Paul Highams. The next set of stats is for the upcoming World Cup event in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 6 to 7 May 2023, at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Jakarta Pusat.
HIGHLIGHTS
IFSC World Cup Jakarta 2023 will the 385th Senior World Cup event and the second World Cup competition in Indonesia. The World Cup was first hosted in Jakarta last year with the Speed and Lead disciplines. The 2023 edition is a standalone competition for the Speed discipline.
The IFSC World Cup Jakarta 2023 will be the 130th Speed competition for men and women.
NUMBERS
A total of 120 athletes are registered for the event:
- 48 in women’s Speed; and
- 72 in men’s Speed.
ATHLETES' STATS
Male competitors:
- Bassa Mawem (FRA) is the most experienced competitor in the start list – his first competition was in Chamonix in 2006;
- 33 of the 72 men competed at a World Cup before 2021;
- The other 39 started competing in World Cups after 2021;
- There are 19 men in Jakarta who have won a World Cup medal – with 10 winning gold.
Female competitors:
- Aleksanda Miroslaw (POL) is the most experienced competitor in the start list – her first competition was in Chamonix in 2010;
- Only 18 of the 48 women competed at a World Cup before 2021;
- The other 30 started competing in World Cups after 2021;
- There are nine women in Jakarta who have won a World Cup medal.
DEBUTS
The following climbers will make their career debut on the IFSC World Cup circuit:

- Nurma Anjani (INA); and
- Kusuma Berthdigna Devi Surya (INA).
Men’s Speed:
- Hayden Barton (AUS);
- Ramaski Aswin Kristanto (INA);
- Kim Daeseong (KOR);
- Tan Bing Qian (SGP);
- Jit Yi Denzel Chua (SGP);
- Aphiwit Limpanichpakdee (THA); and
- Tarim Mehmet Ali (TUR).
