The final European quota places for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, now rescheduled for July-August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be awarded this weekend in Moscow (RUS) at the IFSC European Championships.

Following a week of nail-biting competitions in Boulder, Lead, and Speed, the Russian capital will now host the Combined Championships from 27-28 November. Athletes who ranked highest in the individual disciplines will proceed to the Combined Championships tomorrow, where they will compete for the remaining two Olympic slots for European Sport Climbing athletes. One female athlete and one male athlete will have the opportunity to qualify for next year’s Games during the two-day concluding round of the European Championships.

For the first time ever, Poland State broadcaster TVP will this week broadcast an IFSC competition, offering live coverage of the Combined finals. Other broadcasters for finals include BBC Online in the UK, Sport5 in Israel, and on a news access basis, SSR/SSG of Switzerland, ZDF/ARD of Germany, and Slovenia’s RTV. As with each IFSC competition, the Olympic Channel will also provide livestream coverage.
