IFSC Executive Board Confirms Postponed Date of 2020 Plenary Assembly During Monthly Teleconference

Following the first Sport Climbing event of the 2020 season last weekend in Los Angeles, USA, the IFSC Executive Board this afternoon came together for their monthly teleconference to review key developments within the sport. One major topic discussed was the XV IFSC Plenary Assembly, which has been postponed as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.

XV IFSC Plenary Assembly & Legal Matters

After approving the minutes of February’s Executive Board teleconference, IFSC President Marco Scolaris conferred with the Board over the postponement of the XV IFSC Plenary Assembly. Having made the decision earlier this week to postpone the Plenary Assembly (which was scheduled to take place on 13-14th March 2020) due to the Coronavirus outbreak, it has now been agreed that the annual gathering will be held on 13-14th November 2020. President Scolaris next updated the Board on the status of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) appeal, which is currently pending between the IFSC and Member Federation the Japan Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Association (JMSCA).

Departmental Updates

Led by IFSC Sport Director Silvia Verdolini, the Sport Department offered a number of updates, focusing on plans for events’ rescheduling as an effect of the Coronavirus, the first live test of the new result system, and the opening of the call for application for the Official Sport Equipment Catalogue 2020. Marketing & Communications Director Anne Fuynel next proceeded with an overview of the IFSC Communication Plan for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, in addition to providing information on 2020 broadcasting and sponsorship deals.

A series of votes were then put forward by the Administration Department, firstly regarding the membership of IFSC National Federations. The Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation was provisionally approved by the Board as new IFSC Full Member. The Board then approved the Nomination Criteria for IFSC Executive Board members.

Lastly, changes in staff structure within the IFSC were deliberated.
