Personal details

When you started competing in international competitions, did you see yourself being in the top-10?
I never thought I would be top-10 when I started. People told me it was impossible to do well coming from a country, such as Norway without long tradition for competition climbing.
What motivated you to compete rather than just to climb outside?
I like doing both. Competitions give me a different kind of adrenaline rush and something to train towards. Also I get to spend time with friends who I have known for many years.
What are some struggles you face as an athlete?
Getting in shape at the beginning of the season is the hardest part. During the season there is a lot of travelling and not much time to train hard. All the travelling, especially between different times zones can be hard at times. Towards the end of the season I guess most of us are pretty tired of airports and impersonal hotels.
What influenced you to start competing?
I watched a small local climbing competition at my gym soon after I started climbing and was immediately fascinated by it.
Who most helped you get to where you are right now?
My climbing friends from Bergen who I grew up with and who helped me stay motivated.
What advice could you give to Young Athletes?
To stay motivated. Motivation is the most important tool in both climbing and training. Find out what motivates you and be true to it.
