JANJA GARNBRET DOMINATES BOULDER SEMI-FINAL IN PRAGUE

Day three at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup Prague 2023 opened with the women’s Boulder semi-final, where Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Janja Garnbret of Slovenia finished as the only climber out of 20 participants with four tops.

After placing first in the qualification round, Garnbret proved once more that she is already in top form, flashing two out of four problems, and being one of the only two athletes to crush the extremely physical W4 – the second one being Ito Futaba of Japan.

The 21-year-old from Morioka took second place with three tops and four zones, only failing to solve W3.

The first climber on the mats, France’s Flavy Cohaut, also made it into the final round, closing with three tops and three zone and qualifying for the first Boulder final of her career in third position. A second French climber, Oriane Bertone, qualified in sixth.

Alongside France, team Japan also moved two athletes into tonight’s final, with Ito being joined by Olympic silver medallist  Nonaka Miho, who will be looking to claim her second World Cup gold this season.

The pack of six athletes competing in the women’s Boulder final was Serbia’s Stasa Gejo, fourth with three tops, three zones and a higher number of attempts compared to Nonaka.

The IFSC World Cup Prague 2023 will conclude tonight with the women’s Boulder final, scheduled at 19:00 (UTC+2:00).
