INDONESIA EYES PODIUM SWEEP AFTER SUCCESSFUL MEN'S SPEED QUALIFICATION
Five Indonesian climbers have made it into the men’s Speed final, the conclusive act of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup Salt Lake City 2023.
Five-time World Cup gold medallist Veddriq Leonardo took first place in the qualification round, stopping the clock at 5.08 seconds. Rahmad Adi Mulyono, also of Indonesia, followed in second with 5.14. Three more Indonesian speedsters advanced to the final round: Kiromal Katibin placed fourth, Aspar Aspar took sixth place, and Alfian Muhammad Fajri placed 14th.
Pushed by the home crowd, Sam Watson of the USA signed one of his fastest personal times – 5.15 – taking third position.
Experienced Speed specialists Bassa Mawem of France and Ludovico Fossali also made the cut and moved into the final, in ninth and 13th position respectively.
