AUSTRIAN DUO SCHUBERT-STERRER TAKE TOP POSITIONS IN BOULDER SEMI-FINALS
Two hard-fought Boulder semi-finals concluded with an Austrian athlete standing at the top of the table in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, where the first of two International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cups will conclude tonight.
Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Jakob Schubert absolutely dominated the men’s round, finishing with the perfect score of four tops and four zones – a feat that no other participant in the semi-final was able to match.
Also advancing to the men’s Boulder final, Schubert’s teammate Nicolai Uznik – who closed his round in fourth position. Japan’s Ogata Yoshiyuki and Kawamata Rei placed respectively in third and fifth; Yannick Flohé of Germany took second place; and Mejdi Schalck of France closed in sixth.

After placing first in the women’s qualification, Schubert’s teammate Franziska Sterrer also claimed the top position at the end of an exciting semi-final, only missing the top hold in the fourth and final boulder, and signing off with three tops and four zones.
Tied with Sterrer in first place, Brooke Raboutou of the United States of America closed her semi-final with the exact same number of tops, zones, and attempts as her Austrian opponent.
Natalia Grossman – also of the United States of America – and Jessica Pilz – also of Austria – followed in third and fourth position respectively. Boulder vice-world champion Camilla Moroni of Italy placed fifth, and Nonaka Miho of Japan finished in sixth position.
