The International Federation of Sport Climbing confirms the important financial support received from the International Olympic Committee, in order to overcome the many challenges that derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indeed, over the past four months the IFSC, its Member Federations, athletes, officials and staff members, have been all deeply affected by the toughest global crisis of modern times. A crisis that hit the Sport Climbing community in an unforeseeable and unprecedented way, forcing the cancellation of various national and international competitions, and most importantly, causing the International Olympic Committee to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Sport Climbing’s Olympic debut to 2021.

The support of the IOC will allow the IFSC to keep working on the worldwide development and promotion of Sport Climbing, also meeting the higher expectations and standards that are required to an Olympic Federation.

IFSC President Marco Scolaris said:

“It’s been encouraging to feel the support and solidarity of the International Olympic Committee and of IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach all along this unbelievable, challenging crisis. The investment they made in us, in our future, is a precious milestone in the history of our young Federation. We would like to thank them for leading not only us, but our whole community, through these very critical times. And we are looking forward to working again alongside the IOC for the growth of our sport and for a successful debut on the Tokyo 2020 stage.”
