IFSC Executive Board Teleconference October 2019
On Wednesday 23rd October, just days before the final IFSC World Cup of the 2019 Sport Climbing season, the IFSC Executive Board came together for their monthly teleconference to discuss the latest developments within the sport.
President Scolaris warmly welcomed the IFSC General Director, who introduced himself to the Executive Board members and will officially join the team in December this year.
Following the approval of the September teleconference minutes, the IFSC Sport Department opened the meeting with updates surrounding IT, the IFSC Technical Commissions and Medical Commission. A report of the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games, a multi-sport event which included Bouldering, was then presented, before an overview of the 2020 calendar was provided. President Scolaris confirmed the success of the sport climbing event, which was coordinated by IFSC Event Officer Alessandro Di Cato: “Considering the enthusiasm met in Doha, I hope this could be the first step for the development of the sport in Qatar and in the region”, he said.
Head of Olympic Coordination Jérôme Meyer subsequently informed the Board of preparations for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, focusing in particular on the Qualification System and the IFSC Olympic Games Team. Sport Director, Silvia Verdolini gave updates on the Sport Equipment for the Games, then presented the selection criteria for the team of officials for the Olympic Games which was approved together with the officials’ shortlist. Finally, Administration Department illustrated progress made in the International Federation (IF) Delegation Services.
Francesca Jengo, Administration Director, reported on the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Governance Workshop which took place in Lausanne, Switzerland, earlier this month. This led to an update on the ASOIF IF Questionnaire, which is to be completed by January 2020.
Plans for the Climbing Summit in December 2019, taking place as part of the IFSC Strategic Plan, were presented to the Executive Board, before considering the Sustainability Guidelines currently in development.
The next teleconference of the IFSC Executive Board is to be held on Wednesday 20th November at 14.00 CET.
