Technical Commissions

The IFSC Technical Commissions are established by Article 33 of the IFSC Statutes.

In January 2011, the existing Technical Commissions were dissolved, reorganised and integrated into the Sport Department structure.

The IFSC Executive Board approved the composition and directors of the following Technical Commissions:

  • Rules
  • Events
  • Coaches
  • Routesetters
  • Judges
  • Sport Development

According to Article 33 of the IFSC statutes, the Technical Commissions term expires at the end of the IFSC Executive Board term. Consequently, new members will be nominated by the new Executive Board at the occasion of the IFSC General Assembly 2021.

Judges Commission

Following the 2021 IFSC General Assembly, new members are coming soon.

Purpose

  • To develop and maintain the highest standards in judging IFSC Sport Climbing competitions in all disciplines and categories.
  • To develop, improve and standardise a career path for judges.

Activities

  • To oversee the annual evaluation of judges based on experience and peer reports.
  • To update the annual list of active judges and to monitor the quality of international Jury Presidents and Judges.
  • To coordinate with the Routesetters Commission and Technical Delegates and to propose nominations for IFSC Jury Presidents and IFSC Judges to officiate IFSC events.
  • To continuously improve the standard of judging at IFSC events by reporting to the Sport Department and making recommendations.
  • To oversee the running of courses aimed at developing new judges following IFSC guidelines and using the most modern educational techniques and methods.

Coaches Commission

Following the 2021 IFSC General Assembly, new members are coming soon.

Purpose

  • To act as a centre of excellence in the coaching field.
  • To represent coaches globally and provide support to regions to develop sustainable coaching education.
  • To promote a culture of integrity during competitions, resisting doping, cheating, fraud, manipulation or corruption.

Activities

To collect proposals from coaches and make recommendations to other technical commissions for improvements of all Sport Climbing disciplines.

Rules Commission

Following the 2021 IFSC General Assembly, new members are coming soon.

Purpose

The Rules Commission is responsible for maintaining and updating the official international rules of Sport Climbing.

Activities

  • To analyse the requirement for improvement of all Sport Climbing disciplines and to consider proposals received by other Technical Commissions, officials, and IFSC staff.
  • To identify proposals with impact on other Technical Commissions’ work and bring those for discussion to the Sport Department Management Committee.
  • To make recommendations to the Executive Board regarding Rules changes.

Events Commission

Following the 2021 IFSC General Assembly, new members are coming soon.

Purpose

  • To support and advise all IFSC Departments on IFSC events with regards to the venue, technical requirements, safety of climbers and organisation of the events
  • To investigate and recommend on the implementation of the official sport equipment.

RouteSetters Commission

Following the 2021 IFSC General Assembly, new members are coming soon.

Purpose

  • To develop and maintain the highest standards in routesetting IFSC Sport Climbing competitions in all categories.
  • To develop, improve, and standardise a career path for routesetters.

Activities

  • To oversee the annual evaluation of routesetters based on experience and peer reports.
  • To update the annual list of active routesetters and monitor the quality of international routesetters.
  • To coordinate with the Judges Commission and Technical Delegates and to propose nominations for IFSC Chief Routesetters and IFSC Routesetters to officiate IFSC events.
  • To continuously improve the standards of routesetting at IFSC events by reporting to the Sport Department and making recommendations.
  • To support the development of new routesetters following IFSC guidelines.

Sport Development Commission
