IFSC Attends Sports Development and Education Forum, Switzerland

Mies, Switzerland, played host to the seventh edition of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations’ (ASOIF) Sports Development and Education Forum (ASDEG Forum) this week (28-29th May), which saw 28 International Federations (IFs) gather at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) headquarters to discuss development and educational projects within their respective sports.

Amongst the IFs in attendance were representatives of two of the additional sports in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 programme: the IFSC, represented by IFSC Administration and Development Officer Erica Ricci, and World Skate, the governing body for skateboarding and roller sports. ASOIF, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Solidarity and the OlympAfrica Foundation also joined the Forum.

As the Forum unfolded, online resources for anti-doping education and athlete safeguarding were shared by World Rugby, followed by an open discussion suggesting methods for helping National Federations (NFs) grow into their sports. With less than 450 days to go until the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) shared its approach for ensuring a legacy at the upcoming Games.

An annual event, the ASDEG Forum is led by the ASDEG Consultative Group, chaired by Deqa Niamkey, Development Director at United World Wrestling (UWW).

The next Forum is scheduled for May 2020. Read more about the ASDEG Forum 2019 here.
