
IFSC Bids Farewell to One of Our Champions
Following an avalanche on April 16th in Banff National Park, Canada, the IFSC is saddened to report that the bodies of three elite climbers were recovered on April 21st.
The IFSC is now mourning the loss of David Lama (AUT), aged 28, and companions Jess Roskelley (USA),36, and Hansjörg Auer (AUT), 35, who were attempting to climb the east face of Howse Peak in the National Park when the avalanche struck. Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.
A renowned Sport Climbing athlete as well as mountaineer, David Lama competed in IFSC World Cups up until 2010, claiming multiple gold medals in Bouldering and Lead. David was Youth World Champion and subsequently European Champion in both Lead and Bouldering 2006-2007. His final first place podium finishes include the IFSC Lead World Cup in Imst (AUT), 2008, and the IFSC Bouldering World Cup in Fiera di Primiero (ITA) during the same year.
