On Friday 17th January, Vertical Life Product Manager Ben Lepesant and Software Developers Saulius Astromskis and Emanuela Calabi met with IFSC Sport Director Silvia Verdolini and the IFSC team in Turin, Italy, to present and fully install the new database and results system ahead of the 2020 Sport Climbing season.
Slovenian Sport Climbing athlete Janja Garnbret was one of 25 athletes nominated for The World Games Athlete of the Year 2019 and now, she’s made the top 10 shortlist of athletes continuing the race for the title.
On the occasion of the 135th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland, IFSC President Marco Maria Scolaris and Head of Olympic Coordination Jérôme Meyer met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) members and officers, to discuss developments and ongoing challenges faced by the IFSC and Sport Climbing as a whole.
The third Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) commenced yesterday (9th January) in Lausanne, Switzerland. Further cementing the IFSC’s position within the Olympic family, IFSC President Marco Maria Scolaris and Head of Olympic Coordination Jérôme Meyer attended the spectacular YOG opening ceremony at the recently opened Vaudoise Arena in Lausanne.
On Wednesday 8th January 2020, the IFSC Executive Board came together for their first monthly teleconference of the Olympic year. At the beginning of the biggest year for Sport Climbing to date as we take the final steps towards the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the meeting offered Board members the opportunity to discuss ongoing developments within the IFSC and relating to our sport as a whole.
Voting is now open for The World Games Athlete of the Year 2019, which recognises athletes for their outstanding performance, their social commitment, or particularly fair behaviour in 2019. After her record-breaking sweep of the 2019 Bouldering season and having taken further wins during the 2019 IFSC Bouldering and Combined World Championships, Slovenian Sport Climbing star Janja Garnbret is one of 25 contenders up for the award.
The 12th edition of the Peace & Sport International Forum took place in Monte Carlo, within the Principality of Monaco, on 11-13th December. IFSC Honorary Member Dr Paola Gigliotti was invited to the Forum as one of six jury members for the 2019 Peace & Sport Awards.
The IFSC Executive Board meets monthly via teleconference and twice yearly in person, during the IFSC Plenary Assembly in March and the December Executive Board meeting in Turin, Italy, where the IFSC headquarters is located. Thursday 12th – Friday 13th December 2019 saw the Board convene in Italy to review the 2019 season, prepare for the year ahead, and discuss ongoing matters relating to the development of both the IFSC and Sport Climbing as a whole.
