Home win for Anna Stöhr and Jakob Schubert in Kitzbühel!

In a Bouldering final hard to beat on tension last year’s Overall Bouldering World Cup winner Anna Stöhr and reigning Lead world champion Jakob Schubert celebrated an Austrian happy ending in front of their home crowd at the Sports Park Kitzbühel yesterday.

The third competition stop in 2013 turned out to be an event with quite a lot of "first times": At the first IFSC Bouldering World Cup in Kitzbühel Austria’s Jakob Schubert celebrated his first victory of the season and at the same time his first one in front of a home crowd while teammate Anna Stöhr gained her first World Cup hat-trick after her victories in Chongqing (CHN) and Millau (FRA)!

Heart-stopping final

But competition was tough in Kitzbühel. As well as double world champion Anna Stöhr Japan’s top athlete Akiyo Noguchi solved all four final boulder problems at the first attempt (flash), so that the ranking of the semi-final decided on the victory in the Tyrol: Gold for Anna Stöhr (second after the semis) and silver for Akyio Noguchi (third after the semis)! Bronze went to American climber Alex Puccio who gained three ranks while leader after the semis, Shauna Coxsey, dropped to fourth.

Home win on the "second attempt"

Even more excitement was shown in the men’s competition: Close to 10 p.m. local time Austria‘s allrounder Jakob Schubert reached his second top of the final at boulder problem number four and therewith his supposed win in Kitzbühel. But shortly afterwards Schubert was informed that his second top at boulder problem number three – where he had been the only athlete to reach the top – was irregular because of an incorrect starting postition. So after a short breathing pause Schubert got the chance to restart at boulder problem number three and retain his lead. Tension was high at the Sport Park Kitzbühel – but Jakob Schubert succeeded and reached the top and his first victory in 2013 after not more than 30 seconds! Silver and bronze went to Guillaume Glairon Mondet from France and Russia’s Dmitrii Sharafutdinov, leader after the semi-finals.

After this great competition weekend in Austria the IFSC Bouldering World Cup is moving on to Slovenia: Log Dragomer will be the venue of the next World Cup stop on May 11-12! Stay connected.
