Sunday 14th saw the first meeting of the new IFSC Executive Board after the elections at the Plenary Assembly for the term 2017-2021.
President Marco Maria Scolaris (ITA), Secretary General Debra Gawrych (USA), Vice-President Finances Pierre-Henri Paillasson (FRA) and Vice-President Communications Li Zhixin (CHN) were re-elected. Kobinata Toru (JPN) was elected Vice-President Sport/Events as Helmut Knabl stepped down after many years of dedicated service to the IFSC and the sport. Helmut Knabl was subsequently awarded with Honorary Membership of the IFSC for his tireless work to promote Sport Climbing.
Previously Continental Councils had elected Anthony Seah (SIN) for another term as President of the IFSC Asian Council, Wolfgang Wabel (GER) as President of the IFSC European Council and Maria Izquierdo (CAN) as President of the IFSC PanAmerican Council. In January, the Oceania Council had elected Romain Thevenot (AUS) President of the IFSC Oceania Council. Sean McColl (CAN) had been elected to continue serving as President of the IFSC Athletes Commission at the World Championships in Paris in September.
Further changes happened within the Continental Councils. The IFSC Oceania council not only chose a new president but also grew the council from three to six members. Other new members on the Oceania Council include Naomi Cleary (AUS) as Secretary and Sarah Hay (NZD) and Pierre Caubert (New Caledonia) as Ordinary Officers.
The Asian Continental Council elected Somboon Uthaiviankul (THA) as 1st Vice-President and Rasip Isnin as Vice-President of Projects. The work of the Council continues to be supported by a strong sport department, which is now composed of Okano Hiroshi (JPN), Zhao Lei (CHN), Artimes Fashadyganeh (IRI), Stanley Yeo (SIN) and Maman Hermansyah (INA).
Both the PanAmerican Council and the European Council had their Plenary Assemblies and hosted elections alongside the IFSC Plenary Assembly in Quebec. The Pan-American Council elected Chris Danielson as Secretary General and added Marcello Romillo and Martin Lascano Gonzales (both ARG) as Members at large.
In Europe, Maiike Romijn (NED) joins the Executive Board as Secretary General, Alain Carriere (FRA), Arkadiuz Kaminski (POL) and Vincenzo Adinolfi (ITA) were elected Board Members.
