Federazione Arrampicata Sportiva Italiana (FASI) President meets IFSC President in Turin, Italy

On Thursday 16th January, the President and representatives of the Federazione Arrampicata Sportiva Italiana (FASI), IFSC Member Federation, met with IFSC President Marco Scolaris, General Director Piero Rebaudengo and IFSC Sport Director Silvia Verdolini at the IFSC Headquarters in Turin, Italy.

FASI President Davide Battistella, Secretary General Andrea Bronsino and Davide Manzoni, FASI Board Member, attended the IFSC office to prepare for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) 2020 World University Championship of Sport Climbing, which is set to take place in Turin from 17-20th September this year. The Championship will include all three Sport Climbing disciplines – Bouldering, Lead and Speed. Lead and Speed events are to be held within Centro Arrampicata Torino and the Bouldering venue shall be confirmed in February 2020, following a visit to the Italian city from the FISU organising team.

With Italy holding the World University Championship later this year and having played host to the IFSC Youth World Championships Arco 2019, a strategy was then discussed for future international Sport Climbing events in Italy. General conversations were then held surrounding the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and beyond.

“With Sport Climbing evolving at such a rapid rate, it is important that the IFSC continues to work closely with its National Federations, guiding our sport as it reaches a whole new level and audience. It’s a hugely exciting time for Sport Climbing both as a whole and in Italy, where there’s a sense of pride amongst the climbing community because our sport was created here and the country has hosted multiple international events over the years,”  says President Scolaris.
