THE WORLD GAMES 2022 ON TV

Just three weeks before the start of The 2022 World Games on 7th July, it is already clear that TV stations in over 60 countries will broadcast images from the competitions in Birmingham, Alabama. And the media rights marketing company ISB in Spain, which negotiates the TV rights on behalf of the International World Games Association, is convinced that further contracts will be concluded with major channels, for instance with a German and a Chinese channel, in the coming days.

In the USA, the Organising Committee in Birmingham was able to award the TV rights to CBS. In addition, the multi-sport event with 3,600 athletes from 108 countries can be followed in the host country via the streaming platform Olympic.org.

The agreements already concluded by ISB allow, for instance, sports fans in Poland, host country of The World Games 2017, to watch via the channel Polsat, in France via L'Equipe and in Spain via RTVE. ESPN Latin America covers the Games in South America with its programmes for the first time. In the Middle East and North Africa, the 11th edition of The World Games will be shown on Abu Dhabi TV. In Asia, Optimum has acquired broadcast rights for Thailand, TV Tokyo for Japan and Abu Dhabi TV for Vanuatu and Myanmar.

The aim is to surpass the marketing reach of the Games in 2017 when Wrocław, Poland was the host city. At that time, the competitions of The World Games were seen in 115 countries. The reach was 100 million viewers. The Olympic Channel was highly successful in streaming the competitions in all countries that could not be reached by TV broadcast. The IWGA is seeking a similar agreement with the Olympic Channel for the event in Birmingham, Alabama.
